of various entities. This will be the 5th time the awards have been held.
It
has become common knowledge in the government that AI and IoT are pushes us
forward towards a Fourth Industrial Revolution, where the decisive competitive
factor is data itself. The most important issue now is how to create an
environment where big data can be utilized.
Among
the entities involved, many of those honored this time were very different than
those given awards up to now.

Kobe City
Review:
An innovative data utilization workshop held in collaboration with overseas
sister cities, we can expect a synergistic effect with other activities such as
data academies in Kobe City as well as other areas. This is a model for other
cities to follow.
My
comments.
The
first year, Sabae City won the Grand Prize of the Unofficial Awards. Regional
coalitions won the second year. The third year was Tokyo Metro, a public
utility company. The fourth year was the set of Shizuoka City and Toyota, a
municipality and a private company. This time, the legislature was selected,
and parliamentarians also won Excellence Awards.
Open
data is showing that it is spreading beyond assumptions. With legislature and
the backing of the Diet, it is entering a new phase. Let’s continue to advance
on the path of becoming an open data power country with
government/industry/academic collaboration.
I
should offer congratulations to all of the winners, but since these have been
awarded at our own discretion, I’d like to thank you all for receiving these
awards.
