Japanese
youth think the old-fashioned memorization focused education is adequate.
To
sum all this up, they don't see themselves as creative, intend to create
things, or find within themselves the possibility for creativity.
Not
only that, but they aren't focused on the power of the internet, and think a
memorization based education is good enough.
Unacceptable!
The
previous Adobe International Survey brought into sharp relief this image of
these youths seen as creative by the world, who nonetheless don't see
themselves that way, and it was quite a shock.
However,
after this year's survey I find myself in a darker mood. These are the
attitudes of the next generation of youth to take up responsibility in society.
The
19th century's agricultural society focused on land. The 20th century's
industrial society focused on resources.
Japan,
possessing neither, sought to obtain them through war and suffered defeat.
The
21st century's information society will focus on creativity. The question is,
what do we need to do to become a country that possesses it?
I
believe that having the will to succeed and an education that facilitates it
will be crucial.
